Two series of piano duets that are among Dvorak's most famous compositions, and among the most performed works in the piano four hands repertoire. The composer intended them as artistic stylizations of typical Slavonic dances such as the furiant, the dumka, the polka, the skocna, the odzemek and the kolo. Reprinted from authoritative Czech editions.
The impetus for composing the Stabat Mater, Opus 58, was Dvorak's
reaction to the tragic death of his baby daughter, Josefa. The
original sketch was written in early 1876, but was discontinued
because of the composer's other obligations at that time. He later
lost his two surviving children within a short time of each other,
and this returned Dvorak to work on the composition which was
finished near the end of 1877. Choral score in Latin with piano
accompaniment. Includes: Stabat mater dolorosa * Quis est homo *
Eia, mater, fons amoris * Fac ut ardeat cor meum * Tui nati
vulnerati * Fac me vere tecum flere * Virgo, virginum praeclara *
Fac ut portem Christi mortem * Inflammatus et accensus * Quando
corpus morietur.
The principal theme from the second movement is equal in fame and
popularity to Pachelbel's Canon and Albinoni's Adagio. This
incredibly simple and beautiful theme has been arranged here for
sax quartet (AATB).
A group of resourceful kids start "solution-seekers.com," a website
where "cybervisitors" can get answers to questions that trouble
them. But when one questioner asks the true meaning of Christmas,
the kids seek to unravel the mystery by journeying back through the
prophecies of the Old Testament. What they find is a series of "S"
words that reveal a "spectacular story!" With creative characters,
humorous dialogue and great music, The "S" Files is a children's
Christmas musical your kids will love performing.
Two of the composer's finest symphonies, reproduced from the authoritative Simrock edition. Symphony No. 6 in D is rich in themes, imbued with nationalistic coloring. Symphony No. 7 in D Minor, considered by many Dvorák's greatest achievement in the form, offers strong, concise development, great emotional depths and heroic spirit.
Authoritative edition, reprinted from definitive edition published by the Antonán Dvorák Society, presents five acclaimed works: Piano Trio in F Minor, Op. 65; Dumky Trio, Op. 90; Piano Quartet in D Major, Op. 23; Piano Quartet in E-flat Major, Op. 87; Piano Quintet in A Major, Op. 81.
Tomas Hanus conducts this Bayerisches Staatsoper production of
Dvorák's fairy tale opera.
The principal theme from the second movement is equal in fame and
popularity to Pachelbel's Canon and Albinoni's Adagio. This
incredibly simple and beautiful theme was set to words by one of
Dvorak's pupils William Arms Fisher. The resulting song Goin' Home
is now as famous as the original symphonic writing. This incredibly
beautiful melody can now be performed by a high school level
ensemble. The horn and flugelhorn share in the principal theme and
the first trumpet and trombone have a great duet passage in the
middle section. A must on every brass program
Václav Neumann conducts the Czech Philharmonic in this live
performance recorded at Prague's Smetana Hall in 1986. The concert
features Antonín Dvorák's 'The Wild Dove' and Leos Janácek's 'Taras
Bulba'.
